Park Kyung-soo said, "I am grateful to the club and the coach Lee Kang-chul for giving me a chance to start anew as a leader. I also received an offer from the broadcasting industry. I am also grateful to the officials who gave me a good impression," adding, "Although my position has not been decided yet, I will meet my juniors as a leader, not an older brother or a younger brother. Just as the coaches of the team have given me, I will do my best to help my juniors show good performance as players."
Park started his career with the LG Twins in 2003 and joined the KT Wiz as a free agent ahead of the 2015 season. He played as a key infielder and leader of the team for 10 seasons.
New coach Park Kyung-soo played in 2,243 games during his active career and posted a batting average of 0.249, 161 home runs, and 719 RBIs, and in the 2021 Korean Series (KS), he played an active role in offense and defense, leading the team to its first championship and winning the series MVP.
At that time, Park Kyung-soo injured his knee while throwing himself during defense, but he served as a focal point for the team by protecting the dugout on crutches.
Park even showed courage not to run this fall. KT coach Lee Kang-chul suggested that Park join the postseason, saying, "I can contribute to my team by playing defense."
However, Park said, "I am a player who is about to retire. It will help KT's future if a younger player makes the postseason entry and plays a big game."
"This year's postseason appearance may mean a lot to me personally, but I didn't think it would help the team," he told reporters, adding, "When I gave up my personal greed and thought of the team, the answer came out clearly."
